Homo Religiosus – Everyday Faith Through Sound and Space

While global media often highlighted religion through the lens of conflict and extremism, Homo Religiosus offered a different perspective—one rooted in everyday religious life in Tromsø. Based on several years of documentary work by Perspektivet Museum, the exhibition explored how faith was practiced and experienced across diverse communities in the city.

Rather than presenting religion as doctrine, the exhibition focused on lived spirituality—rituals, sacred spaces, and gatherings that shaped daily life and local identity. Central to the experience was the use of sound and music. Through immersive audio environments and artistic installations, the exhibition sought to express the emotional and existential dimensions of belief—beyond words and beyond reason.

Homo Religiosus invited visitors to reflect on the human search for meaning, offering both an outward view of Tromsø’s religious landscape and an inward journey through sound, art, and presence.
